2021 is well underway, so it's time to take a look in your closet to see what items you already have that match the trends we're seeing. While it may be a year that hasn't allowed you to wear all of the clothes you wanted and go out as much as previous years, there's no reason you can't get dressed up for yourself even when working from home. Here are the 2021 fashion trends to look out for.

The Middle Part

If you've been living under a rock the past few months, you may not have noticed a generational war going on between Millennials and Gen Z. While the war was waged on Tik Tok, it has since been taken mainstream where even the oldest Millennials have heard about it. Of course, we're talking about the side part vs. middle part argument. All in good fun, Gen Z has told Millennials that the side part is over, making the middle part the best part for any face shape.

Depending on when you were born, you might not agree, but it's hard to argue with the middle part since we all grew up having one. This isn't a new style, of course, but we're happy to see that it's making a comeback, just like mom jeans. Of course, no matter where you part your hair, beautiful hair will always be in, so make sure to choose the best hair products to give your hair some shine.

Bralettes

Bralettes have always been used as a bra. Not all women find wearing a bra with an underwire comfortable, which forces them to choose the bralette instead, especially under baggy shirts to provide extra color. How we wear bralettes now has changed. Instead of wearing them under our clothing, we're letting them become the main part of our outfits. Bralettes can be worn under cardigans and blazers.

Bright Colors

While the pandemic has made us all feel like wearing gray sweatpants, you can't deny the confidence you feel in bright colors that make you stand out from the crowd. No matter where you work or the places you spend your free time, bright colors can tell the world that you're fun, confident, and outgoing. This year is a year to go all out with color to brighten up your day.

Matching Sets

Until recently, matching sets were typically reserved for loungewear and pajamas. Now, you can wear matching sets in the workplace (as long as it's appropriate, of course!). While you can still wear your matching sets around the house, it's time to take them out on the town for work and social settings, too. You can even add a blazer for a more professional style. If you don't currently have any matching sets at home, you can create your own using pieces that have colors in the same color family.

Oversized Pants

Finally, some comfort! 2021 is the year that allows us to no longer be constricted by our pants. While your pants can and should emphasize your body the way you want, it's not always necessary, depending on your outfit or your mood.

Oversized pants aren't the same thing as baggy pants; they can still emphasize your curves but in a more comfortable way. If you're opting for comfortable, oversized pants, create balance on top with a slim fitting or cropped top.

Boyfriend Jackets

Oversized pants aren't the only thing in style. Oversized boyfriend jackets are an 80s inspired trend that looks great on everyone. These jackets typically have shoulder pads that make your legs look elongated and your waist appear smaller. These jackets pair perfectly with skinny jeans, straight-leg jeans, and even skirts.

Black Face Masks

It's no secret that black goes with everything. Many of us are still required to wear face masks to keep ourselves and others safe this year. When it comes to protecting yourself and others, a black face mask makes the perfect addition to any outfit.

You can choose between cotton or silky fabric, plain or patterned, thick or thin. With a black face mask, there are limitless options for your wardrobe.

Pastels

Pastel tones are great for summer 2021 and match a variety of skin tones. A soft lavender pantsuit, top, or dress can help make you look chic no matter the weather outside.

Thigh High Stockings

If you're trying to stay warm yet fashionable in a dress or skirt, consider pairing the look with thigh high stockings. While we all love our leggings, pairing leggings with a skirt or dress is not the most fashion-forward. Thigh high stockings are a great way to give a little extra coverage, keeps you warm, and completes the perfect chilly day look.

Knee-High Boots

Let's face it: knee-high boots look good with almost every outfit (and pair perfectly with thigh high stockings). This style, originating in the '60s, can be paired with skinny jeans, skirts, and dresses so that no matter where you go this year, you'll stand out.

Knitted Tops and Pants

Comfort is key. Gone are the days where we felt the need to sacrifice comfort to look good. Instead, we can now do both. When it comes to being comfortable, knitwear is the way to go. You can find knitted tops, dresses, and two-piece sets that look good no matter what your plans are for the day. Not to mention, knitted clothing can keep you warm no matter where you live.

Black & White

The two classiest colors to wear, black and white, are great for any setting, but especially the professional. Most people will expect you to wear black pants, but you can dress up your look and stand out by pairing a black top with white pants. Together, black and white look clean and crisp. Don't worry; you can still wear black and white while out on the town! Mom Jeans

And finally, the moment we've all been waiting for. Much like the middle part, Gen Z loves mom jeans. Mom jeans provide a much looser fit than skinny jeans and are much more comfortable. While they may sound baggy, when paired with the right fitted top, mom jeans can really make a statement.

Final Thoughts

There's no reason to sacrifice comfort for fashion, especially when you're out with your friends or at work. No one wants to feel trapped in their clothing when they have an important client meeting or are out on a date. Instead, choose to be comfortable while stylish with these rising trends.
